Belgian Consul General Visits SA Healthcare in Cape Town, Strengthening Healthcare Cooperation

The Consulate General of Belgium in Cape Town has highlighted the importance of continued engagement between Belgian professionals and South African businesses following a recent visit by Consul General Nicolas Fierens Gevaert to SA Healthcare in Milnerton, Cape Town.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on developments in South Africa’s healthcare sector, SA Healthcare’s activities and potential avenues for further international cooperation.

Belgian Consul General Engages South African Healthcare Company

SA Healthcare is a South African-based company established in 1999 by Belgian entrepreneur Andre Duchenne and currently led by his son, Nicolas Duchenne.

According to the Belgian Consulate General in Cape Town, the company is among South Africa’s major medical wholesalers, supplying a range of medical consumables and capital equipment for emergency care, as well as home and hospital healthcare requirements.

The engagement between the Belgian diplomatic representative and SA Healthcare provided an opportunity to discuss the company’s role in the South African healthcare sector and the broader potential for international collaboration.

Strengthening Belgium–South Africa Business Relations

The discussions also highlighted the contribution of Belgian entrepreneurs and professionals operating in South Africa to innovation and cooperation within the healthcare sector.

Engagements of this nature create opportunities for diplomatic missions and businesses to exchange information on sector developments while identifying areas where international business relationships can be strengthened.

For South Africa, such engagements also demonstrate the role that established businesses can play in connecting local expertise with international networks and commercial opportunities.

SA Healthcare to Attend World Health Expo Johannesburg

SA Healthcare is scheduled to participate in the World Health Expo in Johannesburg (WHX Johannesburg) from 6 to 8 October 2026.

The event is described by the Belgian Consulate General as a leading healthcare exhibition and conference in Africa and will provide an opportunity for SA Healthcare to showcase its capabilities and engage with stakeholders from across the healthcare sector.

Participation in major healthcare exhibitions can provide businesses with opportunities to build professional networks, identify potential commercial partnerships and engage with international and regional industry stakeholders.

Opportunities for International Healthcare Collaboration

The visit underscores the potential for greater collaboration between South African businesses and international partners across strategic sectors such as healthcare.

With SA Healthcare’s participation in the upcoming World Health Expo Johannesburg, the company will have another platform to engage with healthcare stakeholders and explore opportunities within the regional and international healthcare market.

The Belgian Consulate General expressed its appreciation to SA Healthcare and Nicolas Duchenne for the warm welcome and engaging discussions during the visit.
