The Embassy of Belgium in Pretoria has welcomed Clémentine Fauconnier to its diplomatic team as the new Consul responsible for consular affairs across several countries in Southern Africa.

Fauconnier will be responsible for consular affairs in Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana, providing support to Belgian citizens across the region.

Her arrival strengthens Belgium’s consular representation in Southern Africa and comes with extensive diplomatic and international experience gained from previous assignments in different parts of the world.

Extensive Diplomatic Experience

Prior to taking up her new position in Southern Africa, Fauconnier served at Belgian diplomatic missions in Nigeria, China and Panama. She also worked within the Africa Department of Belgium’s Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs in Brussels.

Her previous assignments have provided her with experience in consular affairs, international relations and engagement across diverse regional and diplomatic environments.

Fauconnier arrived in Southern Africa from Alicante, where she served as Consul in her most recent posting.

Supporting Belgian Citizens Across the Region

As Consul, one of Fauconnier’s key responsibilities will be supporting Belgian nationals across the six countries falling within her consular jurisdiction.

Consular services play an important role in assisting citizens abroad, including providing support during emergencies and facilitating access to essential consular documentation and services.

Her role will therefore contribute to strengthening Belgium’s engagement with its citizens and institutions throughout Southern Africa.
