The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Ethiopia in South Africa, Dessie Alebachew Maru, received a courtesy visit from the High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to South Africa, Shah Ahmed Shafi, at the Ethiopian Embassy in Pretoria.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two diplomats to reaffirm the longstanding friendly relations between Ethiopia and Bangladesh while exploring avenues for closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During their discussions, Mrs. Maru and Mr. Shafi exchanged views on the state of bilateral relations between their respective countries and underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in advancing common objectives. Both diplomats acknowledged the value of maintaining regular dialogue and fostering stronger partnerships within the framework of South-South cooperation.

A key aspect of the discussions centred on the current situation of Ethiopian and Bangladeshi citizens residing in South Africa. The two diplomats considered matters affecting their respective communities and emphasized the importance of ensuring the welfare, protection, and consular support of nationals living and working in the country.

The courtesy visit also reflected the growing trend of diplomatic missions in Pretoria strengthening collaboration on issues affecting diaspora communities and promoting shared interests in the host country.
