Godlimpi Meets Swedish Counterpart: Focus on Value-Added Minerals and 2027 Commission
On the sidelines of the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Zuko Godlimpi, held a bilateral meeting with his Swedish counterpart, State Secretary for Foreign Trade Håkan Jevrell.
The discussions reflected on the two nations’ longstanding trade relations and cooperation, spanning decades. Key topics included enhancing the supply of value-added critical minerals, vital for the global energy transition, and exploring opportunities in domestic capital markets to fund mining and industrial projects.
The officials also looked ahead to the upcoming South Africa-Sweden Bi-National Commission in 2027, expected to further deepen economic and strategic partnerships.
This engagement underscores South Africa’s push to move beyond raw mineral exports toward beneficiation and sustainable value chains, while Sweden seeks reliable, responsibly sourced supplies for green technologies.
