South Africa and Nicaragua Advance Economic and Diplomatic Relations

Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Alvin Botes has successfully concluded a four-day working visit to Nicaragua from 23 to 26 January 2026, aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two nations.
Accompanied by officials from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and South Africa’s Ambassador to Mexico and Nicaragua, Beryl Sisulu, Deputy Minister Botes engaged in high-level discussions in Managua.
He held bilateral talks with Nicaraguan Co-Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke and met with a parliamentary delegation to explore enhanced cooperation.
Further meetings included Laureano Ortega Murillo, Advisor for Investment, Trade and International Cooperation to the Nicaraguan Presidency, and Leonardo Ovidio Reyes Ramírez, President of the Central Bank of Nicaragua. The discussions highlighted shared histories of struggle and emphasized improving information exchange on economic and business environments to foster trade, investment, and multilateral collaboration.
The visit underscores South Africa’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in Latin America and advancing mutual interests on the global stage.
