The ASEAN Pretoria Committee (APC) Working Group convened on 02 January 2026 under the chairmanship of Myanmar to assess the performance of the Myanmar Embassy during its tenure leading the APC in the second half of 2025.
The meeting focused on reviewing key achievements and finalising logistical and programmatic preparations for the upcoming handover of the APC chairmanship for the first half of 2026 to the High Commission of Singapore, scheduled next week.
Participants expressed appreciation for Myanmar’s effective stewardship, which advanced ASEAN’s interests in South Africa through coordinated diplomatic engagements. The group voiced strong confidence in Singapore’s upcoming leadership, anticipating continued progress in strengthening ties between ASEAN member states and the host nation.
The APC, comprising resident missions from seven ASEAN countries in Pretoria, plays a vital role in promoting regional cooperation and visibility in Africa. This rotational handover underscores ASEAN’s commitment to unity and collaborative diplomacy.
